Gongora leucochila

Gongora leucochila - Photo by Richard LindbergThe genus Gongora (Gga) contains 52 species from Mexico to Bolivia and Brazil at low altitudes. These plants have mostly pendant flowers. Water and fertilize regularly.

Gongora leucochila grows from Southern Mexico through Central America in tropical rainforests at low altitudes. It is warm to hot growing, fragrant and blooms in the spring.

This is a division of one of Lillian's plants. It had put up a spike but all the buds but one blasted. It was in a teak basket and was under watered and in too bright light. I was worried about how shrunken the pseudobulbs looked, but I has since found out that most of that is normal.

The plant came apart in three pieces with very little encouragement. We cleaned them up and potted them. There were a few pieces of live root and so the plants should made a recovery when the growth season starts.
