Sophronitis cernua

Sophronitis cernua - Photo by Richard LindbergThe genus Sophronitis (S) contains only a few species growing in eastern Brazil and Paraguay. They are used in hybridization for their red color, small size and lower light requirements. They are the "S" in "Slc".

Sophronitis cernua grows in Brazil, Bolivia and Paraguay. It is warm growing and blooms in the spring. Give it bright light and water all year.

The flower picture is not from this plant. I took the picture of one of the plants at POE but I will replace it when this plant blooms. I got the plant at the SCOS meeting last week. We may already be past the blooming season so I won't worry if there are no blooms before next spring.
