Ascocenda Raymond Burr in bloom in Sonoma

Ascocenda Raymond Burr - Photo by Richard Lindberg

In Sonoma, Ascocenda Raymond Burr is in bloom. It is a pretty large plant for an asconcenda. It is from the Sea God nursery.

Sea God Nurseries now operates only as a part of the Raymond Burr Vineyards. There are still a thousand orchid varieties there and a tour can be arranged by appointment.

From 1960 to 1980 the nursery ran a very well respected hybridization program, creating about 2000 varieties. In 1980 the locations were consolidated and moved to Geyserville and the owners, Robert Benevides and Raymond Burr focused more on making a fine wine from grapes they grew themselves.

There are many plants from Sea God Nurseries in collections in our area. They are prized and quite often have the original tag.
