Brassolaelia Morning Glory x Laeliacattleya Love Knot - Photo by Richard LindbergWhen I started collecting orchids this was one of the first orchids I bought. I was growing indoors and still had a lot to learn about orchid basics. It was in bloom and I loved the color, so I bought it.

It was a lucky pick and it was one of my first reblooms. It has bloomed almost every year and the flowers last pretty well too. This particular plant is a backbulb division of that original plant.

Seeing the plant reminds me of an early misconception about the name Brassolaelia. I assumed that the 'Brasso' referred to 'Brassia' and it took awhile for me to wonder about why it looked so much different from any Brassia I had seen. Finding out that it meant 'Brassavola' didn't help, because it didn't look like any of those I had seen either.
