Epicattleya Rene Marquez 'Flame Thrower' HCC/AOS

Epicattleya Rene Marquez 'Flame Thrower' HCC/AOS - Flower photo by Richard LindbergI would not have purchased an Epicattleya Rene Marquez 'Flame Thrower' HCC/AOS but I am glad I have it. It is a mix of Epidendron pseudepidendrum x (Cattleya intermedia) x (Cattleya loddigesii) and many people have one in their collection.

Epicattleya Rene Marquez 'Flame Thrower' HCC/AOS - Plant photo by Richard LindbergI got it in 2007 from a friend who was down-sizing her collection. I re-potted in rock and let it settle in the greenhouse. The first year it didn't bloom but did have a taller new growth than any it had before.

for the 2009 growing season I moved it to a dryer and brighter location and the plant bloomed on a taller new growth. This year to size continues to increase. I take that as a sign that the plant likes the location.

I am not sure how many flowers there are supposed to be. There are only two and I would have thought it would be more. When it comes to flowers I'll take what I can get but it is nice to know what to expect.
