Sobralia xantholuca 'Broa' x leucoxantha alba 'Broa'

It's a miracle, three Sobralia flowers open at once

Sobralia xantholuca 'Broa' x leucoxantha alba 'Broa' - Flower photo by Richard LindbergSobralia flowers are ephemeral. The flowers on this plant open early in the day, usually starting to close by noon and are gone by evening. I went into the greenhouse just before noon yesterday and was amazed to see three flowers open.

Sobralia xantholuca 'Broa' x leucoxantha alba 'Broa' - Plant photo by Richard Lindberg taken a year ago. It has grown since then. This was on the raffle table when Bruce Rogers spoke. It was the largest plant he had there. I don't know what possessed me to take it, but I did. I almost immediately had raffle remorse.

It bloomed all summer and I got used to looking at the plant for flowers whenever I go into the greenhouse. It took a couple of tries to get a nice flower picture, but that was fun too. All in all, well worth the space it takes.

Bruce Rogers is local to us so he visits every year. He is a great and enthusiastic speaker. He gets around, so if you get the chance to hear him, take it. You may THINK you don't care about Sobralia. He will change all that.
