Cattleya Drumbeat 'Minerva Burr'

Cattleya Drumbeat 'Minerva Burr' - Flower photo by Richard LindbergCattleya Drumbeat - Flower photo by Richard LindbergI have been waiting for this Cattleya Drumbeat 'Minerva Burr' to bloom. The Sonama collection had two plants with "Cattleya Drumbeat" on their tags. One of them also had the 'Minerva Burr' name. I suspected these were different but it is also possible that it was the product of sloppy tag-making after a division.

Cattleya Drumbeat is the cross Cattleya Bonanza x Cattleya Horace, registered by Stewart 1967. The 'Minerva Burr' is from Sea God Nursery.

The Cattleya Drumbeat 'Minerva Burr' was badly over-potted and had very poor roots. I divided it into the two leads and this two pseudobulb rootless backbulb division. I found it interesting that the backbulb division was the one of the three that bloomed first.

I like both flowers, but there is no doubt that these are different mixes. My theory is that Sea God Nursery re-made Stewart's Drumbeat.
