Epicattleya Rene Marquez 'Flame Thrower' HCC/AOS

At this time of year I look forward to seeing my Epicattleya Rene Marquez 'Flame Thrower' HCC/AOS in bloom. It is long lasting and is one of those flowers that has wonderful colors. Alas, no flowers this year.

It was attacked by a snail. I was late renewing the snail bait and paid the price. Snail bait does not last long in my greenhouse because of all the water.

I have had it since 2007 and the cane produced each year is taller than the last. It was 6 inches tall when I got it and is now 22 inches. It has been in the same small pot in pea gravel the whole time.

Epicattleya Rene Marquez is the cross Epidendron pseudepidendrum x (Cattleya intermedia) x (Cattleya loddigesii). It grows well intermediate and many indoor growers have one.
