Zygopetalum Kiwi Dusk

Zygopetalum Kiwi Dusk - Plant photo by Richard LindbergGoing to the SFOS meeting is a bit of an event. It is an hour and a half drive and parking is such that if I don't arrive at 6pm, parking is problematic. I have time to have dinner at one of the moderately priced restaurants within easy walking distance.

There is a skill session at 7pm. I sometimes go to that but usually I take the time to get up close to the wonderful show and tell tables. I also check out the raffle table and the member sale table. The other night the raffle table was amazing by any standard, but did not have any plants I wanted to add to my collection so I passed on raffle tickets. In my home society I buy raffle tickets every time but at other meetings raffle tickets are optional.

The member sale table had four boxes of plants for $4 each. Most of the plants looked health enough and some even had tags. I looked through the boxes and found this Zygopetalum Kiwi Dusk.

I bought it because I have killed every Zygo I have had. I wanted to try again but did not want a big cash investment. It needs re-potting and is at the perfect place in the growth cycle to do it. I will take it out of the pot to check the roots, renew the medium and move the new growth to the center of the pot. I can't tell what pot size to use until I see the roots, but it could go back into the same pot.

  1. What a deal! I have killed a coupe of Zygos too. Have you considered growing it indoors or perhaps semi-hydro. I am thinking of trying one again if I can score a good deal...
