Mediocalcar decoratum

About ten weeks ago I took some cuttings from my larger Mediocalcar decoratum plant and they have grown really fast. This one is the free orchid this month. I am going to sell the rest on eBay as soon as one of the plants blooms.

Mediocalcar decoratum grows in Papua and New Guinea in moist mountain forests. It is cold to cool growing and blooms in spring. My greenhouse could never be described as cool but this has grown well.

The rules are the same as always: You pay actual postage and it comes Priority Mail. (I'll let you know, but it will be around $6.) If you have not had a free orchid before, add a comment claiming it and them go to this page to get my direct email address so we can work out the details. "First time" restriction ends at 4pm PDT on Friday the 16th. After that, anybody who wants it can have it. Continental US only please.

  1. Am I the first? :) I would love it!!! My mom had one of these that never bloomed...

  2. Yes you are! I will send it Monday! Give it more light and it will bloom in the spring.

  3. I really like the minis if this one isn't spoken for I'd like to try it, as long as you think it would do okay here in Northcentral FL. Thanks Tony

  4. Sorry, Otis, it is. There will be another free orchid sometime next month.

The Google+ group also has a free orchid.

  5. Richard,
I have the Mediocalcar decoratum. :)
    Thank You VERY MUCH!!!!
I was considering mounting it on some cork bark I just happen to have...
    Any thoughts or suggestions?

  6. You can mount that. Usually I don't put much, if any, sphagnum under a mount but I think this will need some to hold moisture.
