Cattleya forbesii

Cattleya forbesii - Flower photo by Richard LindbergCattleya forbesii - Plant photo by Richard LindbergCattleya forbesii grows in Brazil near the coast and streams near the ocean. It is fragrant, cool to warm growing and blooms in the winter. It is best grown mounted and in bright light.

I got three plants two years ago. I mounted two and potted this one in rocks. This has done better than the mounted plants. It bloomed last year and again this year. The flowers are nice and four inches. Not the "up to six inches" level but I am happy with it.

The plant is growing off to the side because it is shaded overhead by mounts. I will re-pot in a larger plastic pot and stake it when new growth starts. I will move it so that the light is more overhead.
