Bulbophyllum facetum

Bulbophyllum facetum - Flower photo by Richard LindbergBulbophyllum facetum - Flower photo by Richard LindbergI took the Bulbophyllum facetum completely off the mount. After I removed the parts growing off the edge, I could see that it was not going to be well formed. I will take a new piece of cork about 6x10 inches and mount one of the pieces after it starts new growth. It will look bare to begin with but this species grows well and will spread out as it forms multiple leads.

Bulbophyllum facetum grows throughout the northern island of the Philippines in the mountains. It is warm to hot growing. The genus Bulbophyllum (Bulb) contains 1500 species found in all tropical areas on earth.

I could not get any pieces going in the same direction. I got frustrated and now have 16 small divisions. I am giving this one away as a free orchid. It is small and scruffy, but will sprout and be a nice addition to your collection. I don't know if it would be considered "rare" but it is unusual.

The rules are the same as always: You pay actual postage and it comes Priority Mail. (I'll let you know, but it will be around $6.) If you have not had a free orchid before, add a comment claiming it and then go to this page to get my direct email address so we can work out the details. "First time" restriction ends at 4pm PDT on Monday the 24th. After that, anybody who wants it can have it. Continental US only please.

This will come WITHOUT a heat pack so be mindful of weather and where the postman will leave it. I can hold it if need be.

  1. Wonderful! I'm watching for your email to work out details. Be sure to have "Backbulb" or "Orchid" somewhere in the subject. I get lots of spam.

  2. Very original your Blog. It has encouraged me to continue fighting for some of my plants in poor condition. A greeting.

  3. Hi,

I would enjoy one of these very much if you still have any.
