Orchid Bacterial Infection

I was looking for plants to sell on EBay and spotted this brown area on one. I immediately cut the pseudobulb off. This is a bacterial infection that would spread across the plant and kill it. The only thing to do is cut it all off.

In this case the side where it was attached was still clean. I put some cinnamon on the cut rhizome and re-potted. I will watch it and if it has spread more than I thought, I will cut another pseudobulb.

  1. I would be curious to see what happens to this. I had a brassavola Nodosa for many years. It got a black mold. Luckily it was a large plant. I divided it into 4 pieces and separated them from my other plants. I threw them into 4 different areas without any media or watering for several weeks. One plant started to grow. The other three divisions died. I just recently devised this plant into several plants that I can use for trade. Let me know if the bulb grows.

  2. I threw this one away. I am hoping I cut enough off the plant that the rest grows.
